3d Garden State Box Clinic

3d Garden State Box Clinic

Program Overview

3d Lacrosse is excited to run a free winter box clinic coached by Chief Lacrosse Officer and USA Indoor Head Coach, Regy Thorpe at Metuchen Sportsplex in Metuchen, NJ.  This program is open to lacrosse players graduation years 2021-2028.

Why Box Lacrosse/Background

It is the goal of 3d Lacrosse to provide an outstanding instructional, educational and technical training experience for all players.  This program is designed to bring in experienced lacrosse players and take their game to the next level.  At 3d Lacrosse, we teach true box techniques that can be found all the way through NLL play.  Box lacrosse skills and techniques that will be taught include:

  • Finishing
  • Faking
  • Catching in traffic
  • Deceptive shooting
  • Feeding
  • Dodging in tight confines
  • Cutting
  • Cycling
  • Picking & Screens
  • The 2-Man Game
  • Power Play
  • How to defend against all these scenarios

Box Lacrosse creates the ultimate environment for taking your game to the next level.  Through the tight space and confines, players will get more touches, shots reps, dodges, and develop more sound defensive technique having to play with a short stick. Players will learn how to set proper picks and roll quickly, instead of popping out high as many players naturally do. Players will learn how to fake using minute but deceiving movements that most goalies in the States have never seen. Defensively, players will learn sounds defensive technique on ball, off ball and in the 2-man game.  Box training with 3d Lacrosse is the fastest way to take your game to the next level.

Regy Thorpe

As a player, Regy has competed at just about every level imaginable. He has a track-record of success as a box and field coach, from the junior box league in Ontario, to professional men’s and women’s lacrosse and the international stage.

Regy is currently the associate head coach of the Division I women’s lacrosse team at Syracuse University. He has served on the Syracuse staff alongside head coach Gary Gait since 2010. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2015. He has helped the women’s team amass a record of 133 wins and 45 losses. During that span, the Orange’s strength of schedule has never been ranked below fifth in the nation. The Orange have twice appeared in the women’s national championship with Thorpe on the sideline and have reached the Final Four in six of the eight seasons he has been on the staff.

Regy was an All- American and NJCAA Defensive player of the year at Herkimer Community College in 1991 before he went on to play at Syracuse University, where in 1992 he would help the team to a national title appearance. The following season, he captained the team to its fifth national championship and earned All-America honors.

Thorpe played for 15 seasons in the National Lacrosse League, all for the Rochester Knighthawks. He eventually became the league’s first general manager/player as he simultaneously held duties on and off the floor from 2008 to 2009. Upon his retirement from the league, he was inducted to the Knighthawks Hall of Fame. He also spent six seasons competing for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse and went on to serve as their assistant coach.

It is the goal of 3d Lacrosse to provide an outstanding instructional, education and technical training experience for all players. Our highly qualified staff of professional coaches will utilize the 3d Box-Field Hybrid™ Development System to train and coach all players in this unique program.

Player development is arguably the most important and least emphasized component of lacrosse throughout the nation. 3d Lacrosse structures camp scenarios that bring players to new levels of playmaking. Founder Jamie Munro pioneered the Box-Field Hybrid™ Development System  in the United States as a Head Coach in Division I lacrosse and now brings it to all 3d Lacrosse programming. The tempo and tactics of 3d practices will resemble those of Division I lacrosse. Skill development at the Intro to Box lacrosse will include and focus on: Finishing / Faking / Catching in traffic / Deceptive shooting / Feeding / Dodging in tight confines / Cutting / Cycling / Picking / Screening / Power Play. Both dominant and non-dominant hands will be incorporated with all skills.
