The Oceanside Hustle Draws More Than 100 Teams, Crowns Ten Champions in SoCal
OCEANSIDE, Calif. — The third annual Oceanside Hustle tournament drew more than 100 West Coast teams – boys and girls – to the SoCal Sports Complex, where 10 squads were crowned champions Sunday.
Powered by 3d Events, the Oceanside Hustle featured teams from California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Texas and more, and featured ten different divisions – seven boys divisions and three girls, competing over the course of two days just a few miles from the Pacific Coast.
“We’re thrilled to see how this event has evolved and grown just three years in,” said Sara Munro, 3d Lacrosse’s Director of Events.
“This tournament creates an opportunity for a lot of the talented players from the West Coast to play in a really competitive environment and in front of college coaches. But like a lot of our events, we try to make this a family-friendly weekend and a lot of fun, especially for the many young players we have here. Being near the beach makes this pretty unique as well.”
Divisions at this year’s tournament included brackets for current 4th grade/5th grade boys up to seniors in high school, with girls teams placed into a High School Open division, a U15 division and a U13 division. On Friday afternoon, leading up to the event, 3d Lacrosse hosted an instructional skills clinic featuring college coaches, which was attended by more than 60 local youth players.
Over the weekend, coaches from NCAA Division I, II and III schools were on site, as well as numerous coaches from MCLA programs throughout the west. Sidelines jammed with fans were treated to several highly competitive championship games, including the Boys 2017/2018 finale – an incredible triple overtime battle between 212 Lacrosse out of Utah and 3d San Diego.
3d Lacrosse’s official equipment partner, STX Lacrosse, was one of several companies on site in the vendor area, along with Lax.com, 3d’s exclusive retail partner, and Stylax, the official tournament apparel provider. Food trucks and additional businesses filled the entry way to the SoCal Sports Complex, where an estimated 5,000 people spent the weekend in sunny, breezy weather.
“We’re working to make the Oceanside Hustle a festival of the sport and an exciting weekend, and we think that this year’s turnout is an indicator of how much the sport is growing in the west. We are trying to help that growth with this tournament and we feel that is happening. Teams are coming back each year and we’re already hearing from teams that want to be here next year, so we’re already looking forward to 2017.”
